Compass acquires Momentum ESR to help streamline digital school management systems in NSW

Aboriginal students are gaining valuable work skills and experience through paid employment whilst completing secondary schooling. School based apprenticeships and traineeships are providing students with the opportunity to attain a nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training qualification, as well as the Higher School Certificate.

Students stop attending school, or markedly reduce the amount of effort they put into learning while in class for a myriad of reasons. Policy responses to truancy often focus on policing and punishing bad behaviour. Some innovative programs targeting at-risk students in disadvantaged communities are trying a different approach by providing positive reinforcement for good behaviour. However, to date only limited attention has been paid to the importance of goals – what does (and could) motivate students to start attending school regularly and devote effort to learning; and how individual goals (and goal setting) could be incorporated into the classroom.

One of UNE's initiatives is focussed on providing resources and support to school career advisors, so that they can effectively support students, in determining their pathways to tertiary education. UNE identified that one of its stumbling blocks in this initiative was assisting school career advisors to personalise the appropriate pathway information so students could maximise their potential for success.
